Convenience & Value for money
This site for a search fee will allow you to search our transcribed database, if you compare the cost of time with us in comparison to the total expenditure of a day trip to the Record Office, you will find our service most comparable. Add to that the fact that we are open 24 hours a day, you won't get wet if it is raining, we are accessible for the housebound, there is no viewer booking no certificates to buy.
Wessex Family History Ltd was planned many years ago but not finally launched until summer 2001 and gone through a major revamp 2005. The objective of the site is to permit access to genealogical material to people who for a variety of reasons have restricted access, and for those who prefer the convenience of 24 hour access to sorted/transcribed material
The site is still very much under construction and like a family tree we hope to see it grow and blossom into another essential research tool for the genealogists bag. [Even the IGI started somewhere - and where would we be without that now?!]
Although every effort has been made to ensure accuracy with these transcriptions, it nevertheless remains a fact that this is not a primary source. There is no substitute for looking at the original records and we strongly urge all users of this site to corroborate any information gleaned from the databases. This site should be viewed as a tool to facilitate you finding that elusive ancestor.
Although in an idealistic world we would all like to have free access to indexes, Pay-per-view is fast becoming the new 21st century tool for research to cover production and maintenance costs. Amidst many other resources, the 1901 census is now accessable electronically by pre-payment, and there are now numerous commercial CD's containing very useful listings of genealogical records worldwide. But for those with genealogical connections in Southern England, there is now this new option to access Census material, Baptisms, Marriages, Burials, MI's and images. Part of the revenue generated will be used to finance the transcription of further records of many kinds.
